Eminent personalities

Shahid Mumtaz Uddin was a Bangladeshi politician and Member of Parliament. He was elected as the 3rd National Member of Parliament from Natore-1 from Bangladesh Awami League.


Mumtaz Uddin was the third National Member of Parliament in 1986-1988. He was also the Senior Vice President of Natore district branch of Awami League. He participated in the national elections in 2001 but was defeated by Fazlur Rahman Patel of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.


Mumtaz Uddin died on June 6, 2003. Local Natore police said that around 10.00 pm, a group of 10 armed men intercepted Momtaz Uddin's motorcycle and hacked him to death at Daripara on Gopalpur-Abdulpur Road, Natore.


On 13 March 2013, a speedy trial tribunal in Rajshahi convicted nine people of murdering Mumtaz Uddipan and sentenced them to life imprisonment and fined them Rs 30,000 each.
